Even FG operatives need a weekend diversion. Our Depot Deco initiative is an ongoing (in fact, never-ending) DIY project that involves the roaming of Home Depot stores, the filling of carts with all sorts of random pieces and parts, and then the "MacGyver-ing" of those items into something wild, wonderful and entirely new. The aim is to show how affordable and accessible design can be, and how easy it is to elevate the everyday to new heights of utility, creativity and visual appeal.

CEILING LAMP // Light Up My Life // Made with five off-the-shelf parts, the finished lamp costs about $35. The yellow flex-connect gas hose A), which is the bulk of the cost, allows for some cool customization. The metal plate B), is from the plumbing department and it threads onto the end the yellow hose. Simple black bulb socket C), then the ceiling plate D), to cover the junction box, and a short length of lamp cord E), complete a great piece, all found at the Depot. Needless to say, you will need a bulb of your choice.

Be careful and disconnect the electricity to the junction box before installing.
